一种昆虫病毒多面体微晶的分子结构已被确定

能够产生传染性多面体结构(包裹数以千计病毒微粒的晶体)的昆虫病毒广泛存在而且相当重要。这种多面体微型晶体非常稳定,能使疾病持久存在,能威胁到蚕茧收成等。现在,这样一种晶体的分子结构已经被确定。这是蛋白质X-射线微晶研究中的一个重大技术成就,因为这些病毒是迄今被用来确定原子结构的最小的蛋白晶体。该研究显示了非常稳定的多面体结构,它们有可能用作生物杀虫剂的输送胶囊,也可用于微阵列等纳米生物技术应用。
