Review:
Informative, practical and to the point.
This book could be profitably and enjoyably read by any surgeon who deals with acute abdominal conditions but will be particularly appreciated by SHOs and Registrars (on this side of the Atlantic) faced with practical problems of diagnosis and management. A book like this is long overdue. R.D. Quill
Review:
Bridges the gap between the text book and practice.
It effectively bridges the gap between text book theory and what actually happens in a clinical context. Its unpretentious, no nonsense, usually a single safe strategy of managing most abdominal emergencies is delightful. I am pleased that it has come from someone who can back it up with evidence (if required). The language is easily understandable, humourous and unambiguous. The choice of topics is pertinent and the approach logical. I was especially impressed with the clearity of thought and above all 'SIMPLICITY' which underlies the management of even apparently complex presentations. I (and I hope others) appreciate the expereince, sweat (and sometimes the disappointments) which have been distilled in this small book. However, space for personal notes could have been provided at the end of the chapters rather than the top of each page. From the juniors perspective and for clearity addition of colour and mroe diagrams etc.may make it more appealing.
In short a gold mine for the trainee surgical doctor (HOs, SHO's and SpRs).
